Welding Procedure Development in Guyana

Welding procedure development in Guyana gives fabricators documented variables for producing consistent code-compliant welds. Kheeran Offshore supports WPS preparation, PQR qualification, mechanical testing, and final record review. Each procedure reflects the material, process, joint, position, thickness, and governing code.

A copied WPS may not cover the planned production work. Therefore, we define the required qualification range before the test coupon is welded. This planning prevents costly gaps after testing.

From Project Requirement to Draft WPS

We begin with drawings, material specifications, consumables, equipment, service conditions, and applicable code. Next, we identify essential and supplementary variables. A preliminary WPS then guides the qualification test.

  • Base material groups, thickness ranges, and joint details.
  • Welding process, filler metal, shielding, and electrical variables.
  • Position, progression, preheat, interpass, and heat input.
  • Back-gouging, backing, post-weld heat treatment, and special controls.
  • Required visual examination, NDT, and mechanical tests.

Procedure Qualification Record

The test coupon must follow the preliminary procedure and receive traceable identification. Consequently, actual variables are recorded during welding. Required specimens are then prepared and tested under the governing code.

Depending on the scope, tests may include tensile, bend, impact, hardness, macro, or nick-break examination. The code determines required tests and acceptance criteria.

Final WPS and Qualification Range

Accepted PQR results support the final WPS within the code’s permitted ranges. However, the WPS must not claim variables beyond its supporting record. We verify this connection during document review.

Projects may reference ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, API 1104, or another specified standard. Production requirements from the construction code remain applicable.
